Did you know that the cherry blossom trees in Portland 🌸 were actually a gift from Japan? Back in 1990, Japan gave these beautiful trees as a present for the dedication of the Japanese American Historical Plaza. 🎁
This plaza was made to help people understand and appreciate the different cultural experiences in America. It's like a reminder of our diverse history and heritage! 🌏
And guess what? The plaza is right next to Old Town Chinatown, which used to be called Japantown. 🏮 So, when you visit the cherry blossoms in Portland, you're not just seeing pretty flowers – you're also stepping into a piece of history and culture! 🌸✨

Did you know cherry blossoms are actually transparent? 🌸 Rather than being pink or white! 😮 The magical hues we admire are created when light reflects off the thin layers of cellulose that make up the petals. It's nature's own dazzling light show! ✨🌸
Portland Japanese Garden
Another hidden gem in Washington Park is the Portland Japanese Garden. Founded in 1963, the Portland Japanese Garden is a nonprofit organization rooted in the ideals of peace and cultural understanding post-World War II. 🌸
From the iconic weeping cherries to the delicate Yoshino blossoms, every variety added its own unique charm to the landscape. It's celebrated as the most authentic Japanese garden outside of Japan and is a symbol of cross-cultural appreciation in North America. 🏞️🕊️
